Pobitora- Abode of One Horned Rhinoceros

By:- JAGAT [06/Jan/2023] The Indian One-Horned Rhinoceros is one of the most admired and massive animals in the world found mostly in the Indian and Asian subcontinents. They are the most vulnerable animal species listed on the IUCN Red List. Also, according to the global report conducted in the year 2022, there are around 3,700 Indian Rhinos in the wild today with Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary having approximately 110 of them!
Indian One Horned Rhinoceros has its prime place in the forest reserves of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary after Kaziranga National Park. Sprawled across an area of about 39 sq. km, the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary dispenses vast grassland area and wetlands habitat for the endangered One-horned Rhinoceros. The Sanctuary records the history of the Indian One Horned Rhinoceros dating back about 80 years when some of these animals lived in the forest reserves of Mayong in the 1940s.When the villagers observed the animals arriving and settling in the forest reserve of Pobitora then, instead of chasing them away they decided to live in harmony with the animals as Rhinos are the most peaceful animals who spend their time mostly feeding on grasses and lying in swampy wetland areas unless they feel threatened or teased.
