Encounter Necromancy in Mayong

Updated [12/Aug/2023] Mayong is a cluster of villages settled on the banks of the Brahmaputra River and is a significant tourist spot in Assam. Predominantly popular for being the land of Black Magic, Mayong entices a lot of tourists to come across necromancy, archeological sites, natural wonders and religious tourism. The place is surrounded by rivers from three sides - the Brahmaputra River in the north, River Kolong in the west and Daipara and Pakaria in the east. Black magic is practiced to date in the village by residents of the village. Mayong is in the Morigaon district of Assam and the etymological implication of the village is associated with illusion. Around 40 km away from Guwahati, the capital city of Assam, Mayong is in close proximity to Pobitora National Park. Magic itself thrives in the meaning of the place (Maya means Magic) and mystery involves in the entire village. It is believed that in ancient times the entire northeastern part was known as Assam. Later a few residents from the Maiibong clan came to reside in this region and eventually named Mayong.

Legend also has it that the village is named after an elephant named Miyong and was later modified to Mayong. In the Mahabharata, it is mentioned that Ghatotkach was involved in the battle of Mahabharata and he derived magical powers from Mayong.

It is a must-visit place for history enthusiasts and curious minds with an interest in black magic.

The best time to visit Mayong and the surrounding attractions is November to March, during the winter and the springtime. It is better to avoid the monsoon months as well as the late summer months to avoid a discomfort experience at Mayong. There are many temples in and around Mayong and is popularly known as the land of Panch Devta in reverence to Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, Goddess Parvati, Lord Dinesh and Lord Shiva.
