The sanctuary is home to nearly 100 rhinoceros within an area of 16 sq. km. Other animals such as leopards, wild boar, barking deer, wild buffalos and feral buffalos and fishing cats can also be spotted here.

The sanctuary is also a haven for bird enthusiasts boasting a diverse avian population. Arrival at Guwahati Airport: Upon arrival at Guwahati airport, visitors are greeted by a representative in traditional Assamese style and driven to the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary to spot the endangered One Horned Rhinoceros indigenous to Assam. You can enjoy a thrilling Jeep Safari in Pobitora or an Elephant Safari into the sanctuary and spot rare bird species near the Eco Resort. Additionally, a visit to the Mayong Museum which is famous for its history of black magic may be also included in the itinerary. There are several wildlife resorts built on the outskirts of the Pobitora Sanctuary.Night stay options include Jungle Cottages/Guest House, resorts, hotels at Pobitora and Jungle Tents at the Chandubi Jungle Camp. All three meals breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided in the resort itself. So, begin your day early to make the most of your time at the sanctuary. Aim to arrive at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary as early as possible preferably around sunrise.

Two types of safaris are conducted in the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary morning and evening shifts. Before your visit, booking your safari well in advance especially during peak seasons is always advisable to secure your spot and confirmyour booking. Many tour operators offer safari packages, including transportation, guide services, and permits. I booked my safari through GTI Travels Private Limited. They are very cooperative and give proper assistance until your tour and safari arecompleted. You can plan your safari during the early morning or late afternoon as wildlife activity tends to be higher during these times. Additionally, the lighting during these hours is ideal for photography. Before you head towards safari ensure you have the necessary permits for the safari which is provided by your tour operator. Always opt for a guided safari led by experienced naturalists who are familiar with the sanctuary's terrain and wildlife. They can provide valuable insights into the flora, fauna and conservation efforts within the sanctuary.Choose between a jeep safari or an elephant safari depending on your preference and availability. Both options offer unique perspectives and opportunities for wildlife viewing.Keep a keen eye out for the sanctuary's most iconic residents including the one-horned rhinoceros.
